Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan’s pardons last week of four individuals, including former Bayelsa State Governor Diepreye Alamieyeseigha, continue to stir negative reaction. US State Department spokesperson Victoria Nuland described the pardons as a setback in the fight against corruption.
FCT council polls: PDP wins 5 chairmanship seats
THE Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has won five chairmanship seats in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja Area council election conducted by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), with 44 councillors emerging, while the All Nigerian People’s Party (ANPP) won one chairmanship seat and 10 councillorship seats.

US to okay sanction against Nigeria over Alams’ pardon

A member of the Peoples Democratic Party in Kwara State, Engineer Musa Yeketi, has exonerated himself from the allegation leading to order by the State House of Assembly to call for his removal and the refund of N5.9m to the coffers of Kwara State College of Education. Until the recent development, Yeketi was the chairman of the governing council of the college, the post he assumed in March 2012, having been seconded from the State Polytechnic.
