A 29-year-old software engineer hanged himself on Saturday at his home in Mylapore, India. Police said the man allegedly committed suicide after a fight with his wife uploading pictures of their wedding on Facebook.
Police said Chandhan Kumar Singh worked at a software firm in Alwarpet. Three months ago, he married his colleague Sandhya without his parents' consent. They did not agree to the match as Sandhya belonged to a different religion.
Singh's parents kept the marriage a secret and told their family members that their son was settled in Australia. However, one of Singh's relative saw a few pictures of the wedding posted by Sandhya on a social networking site and asked Singh's parents about the wedding. Other relatives who got to know about this, too, contacted Singh's parents.
A few days ago, Singh's parents called him and asked him to remove the wedding pictures. Pressured by his parents, Singh asked Sandhya to remove the pictures. "However, Sandhya disagreed, saying there was nothing wrong in posting the pictures," said an investigating officer. After a heated argument on Saturday night, Singh locked himself in another room. On Sunday morning, after Sandhya woke up around 10am, she looked for her husband and found him dead.
Police have sent the body to Government Royapettah Hospital. "The postmortem will be held on Monday as the boy's family suspects some foul play in their son's death," the officer said. Police said the victim left behind a suicide note on his laptop. He claimed that nobody was responsible for his death.
