We Won't Probe Diezani - Presidency


The Presidency has said that it will not probe the allegations of misappropriation of public funds levelled against the Minister of Petroleum, Mrs. Diezani Alison-Madueke.

The Senior Special Assistant to the President on Public Affairs, Dr. Doyin Okupe, told Saturday PUNCH on Friday, that the Federal Government would not set up a probe panel to investigate the minister because the House of Representatives was currently probing her.

National Conference delegate Hamma Misau dies


One of the delegates at the ongoing National Conference, retired police AIG Hamma Misau, whose sleeping pic at the conference was shared on social media some days back, has died.

He died last night at the National Hospital Abuja of an undisclosed illness. He was 67. He will be buried later today. May his soul rest in peace...amen.

Sanusi shuns FRC panel, sitting suspended


The Financial Reporting Council of Nigeria on Thursday alleged that the Central Bank of Nigeria under the leadership of the suspended governor, Mr. Lamido Sanusi, spent N500bn as intervention fund in various sectors without obtaining the approval of its Board or the Federal Executive Council.

Pipeline Explosion: Injured Vandals Nabbed at Healer’s Home (PHOTO)

Operatives of the Inspector-General of Police Special Task Force, Anti-Pipeline Vandalism Unit, have arrested two suspected vandals believed to be responsible for last Thursday’s explosion that led to fire outbreak at Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, pipeline in Ilare/Imagbon area of Ikorodu, Lagos, which left some of the vandals dead.

The suspects, identified as Rotanna Ifeanyi and Soji Omomoyesan, were arrested in a herbalist’s home while receiving treatment from the burns sustained in the fire outbreak.

Trouble, as gathered, started for the duo after residents of the community, initially indicted in the pipeline vandalism saga, besieged the herbalist home and attacked the suspects, when they got wind of their presence.

Church robbery: Court Grants suspects N100,000 bail


An Ikeja Magistrate’s court on Thursday granted bail to eight armed robbery suspects said to have been involved in a church robbery in which phones and money estimated at N2m was said to have been stolen.

Among the suspects is the son of the traditional ruler of Ojokoro Community, 31-year-old Adeola Taiwo. Others are Agozie Ordu, Amidu Shittu, David Bojuwola, Ismail Mufutau, Ahmed Akinola, Moruf Bello and Mutiu Adeosun.

Banks Raise E-mail Fraud Alert

Worried by reported cases of online scams, major commercial banks operating in the country have begun campaigns targeted at educating their customers. Some of the banks that have issued such fraud alerts on their social media accounts and websites include First Bank of Nigeria, Guaranty Trust Bank, First City Monument Bank, Zenith Bank, among others.

According to the banks, the con artistes on the prowl have continued to perfect their schemes to send out e-mails purportedly from them with increasing frequency, creativity and intensity.

Police arraign applicant for stealing ATM cards


The police on Thursday arraigned an applicant, Kingley Francis, 24, for stealing three ATM cards, 960 Zain recharge cards and cigarettes valued at N850,000.

Francis, of no fixed address, is charged with theft.

Explosion rocks Abuja shopping plaza


Residents scampered for safety on Thursday as explosion rocks Shagari Plaza on Moshood Abiola Way, Garki-Area One, Abuja. The quick succession in which the explosion occurred made customers and neighbours to scamper into safety. Many expressed fears that it was a bomb explosion.

Man Bags 10 Months Imprisonment For Stealing Wine, Biscuits

A Grade 1 Area Court, Karu, FCT, on Thursday sentenced Ola Omo, of Asokoro, Abuja, to 10 months imprisonment for stealing wine and biscuits.

The Presiding Officer, Mr Hassan Ishaq, however, gave the accused an option of N18, 000 fine for the offences of criminal trespass, house breaking and theft. The Prosecutor, Mr Phillip Akogwu, had told the court that the accused stole the items from the shop of one Eniola Doherty.

My Best Friend Hypnotised, Snatched My Wife of 15 years— Man Tells Court


A herdsman, Jibril Adamu, 32, has told a Grade 1 Upper Area Court in Mararaba that his best friend, Halilu Lawal, 35, hypnotised and snatched his wife, Aisha, from him.

Adamu, who resides in Gurku Cassa village, Mararaba, Nasarawa State, testified in court that Lawal was the reason why his wife lost interest in their 15-year-old marriage.

FRESH IBADAN HORROR: ‘Madman’ Caught With Human Tongue, Weapons


IBADAN— Barely four days after the discovery of mysterious forest where over 19 human skulls were found in Ibadan, another horror was discovered in the ancient city, yesterday.

A man, who feigned lunacy, was allegedly caught with human tongue, gun and cutlass around the popular Ring Road area of the city.

Court Sentences Man to Death for Stealing N5,000

A motor loader, otherwise known as “Agbero” has been sentenced to death by hanging having been found guilty of robbing his victims of total sum of N5,520, two handsets while armed with cutlass when his gang broke into their apparments.

The 31-year-old convict, Emeka Nweke said to be the only son of the parent was Wednesday sentenced to death by an Asaba high court, which agreed that prosecution proved its case beyond reasonable doubt.

Intercontinental Bank: Shareholders sue Sanusi for N10bn


Shareholders of the defunct Intercontinental Bank Plc have asked an Abuja Federal High Court to order the suspended Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Mr. Lamido Sanusi, to pay them N10bn as damages over what they described as the fraudulent banking and investment practices and breaches involved in the sale of the bank.
