Revealed: How Daura planned to install new NASS leaders




More facts have emerged on the role played by the sacked Director-General, Department of State Services (DSS), Mr Lawal Daura, on the botched attempt to forcefully effect leadership change in the National Assembly and how the plan was hatched.
It was learnt that there were more to the report being bandied around, especially over the series of denial that trailed the DSS operation, than meets the eye.



Though the plan was said to have been hatched and executed by Mr Daura, it was not without the input and support of some powerful interests in the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

PDP candidate Abbey Ukpukpen, widow of a member of the Cross River House of Assembly, Stephen Ukpukpen, has taken over her husband's seat, following her victory at the Obudu Constituency by-election, held in the state yesterday, Saturday August 11th.

Her husband, Stephen Ukpukpen's seat was declared vacant after he slumped and died while jogging in the state in May 2018.

UNN student who trekked in honour of Enugu governor turned back at Enugu govt house

Anyway, to the story, a final year student of the University of Nigeria Nsukka who trekked from Nsukka town to the Enugu state government house to felicitate with the newly sworn in governor, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, as the first Nsukka man to be elected governor of the state, was sadly turned back from the gate of the government house by security men.

Poll delay: Jonathan’s campaign billboard burnt in Abuja


A campaign billboard of the Peoples Democratic Party bearing the photograph of President Goodluck Jonathan was set ablaze in the early hours of Saturday by an unidentified man.

The incident was said to have taken place following earlier rumours that the Independent National Electoral Commission had postponed the February 14, 2015 Presidential election.

The billboard is located on the ever-busy Suleija-Kaduna Expressway at the Federal Housing junction, beside the office of the National Emergency Management Agency in Kubwa.

FG Begins Clampdown on Erring Private Jet Operators Today

IN preparations towards the planned grounding of private jet operators who use their aircraft for commercial operations against the rules of the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) from today, Monday, the Ministerial Committee on Aeronautical and Non-aeronautical charges in charge of the exercise will, this morning, begin verification of the jet operators.

The Nigerian Tribune gathered that the committee, which was headed by Mr Ahonsi Unuigbe, would commence interrogation of the private jet owners today to identify those who were still involved in the illegal hire and reward by the jet owners as against the NCAA rules.

Robbers Disguised as LASTMA Officials Arrested for Extorting N35,000 from Motorist



Two suspected robbers disguised as LASTMA officials in Lagos have been arrested for robbing a man of N35,000. The suspects were identified as Funsho Williams and Adekogbe Olabode.

EFCC recovers $11billion stolen funds in 11 years


Since the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC came into existence in 2003, a total of 11 billion dollars has been recovered.

This was disclosed by the Head of Media and Publicity of the EFCC, Mr. Wilson Uwujaren yesterday. He also said that the commission handled many cases involving advanced fee fraud (419), money laundering, contract scam, internet fraud and has recorded over 100 convictions.

3.2m Nigerians are HIV positive - National Agency for the Control of Aids


The Director General of the National Agency for the Control of AIDS (NACA), Professor John Idoko, announced that about 3.2 million Nigerians are living with the HIV virus but that about 40% of that number are not aware of their status.

He said this at the 2014 NACA/MDG medical outreach & HIV counselling and testing in Kafanchan, Kaduna State yesterday.

Mubi battle: 300 Nigerian soldiers flee to Cameroon again



No fewer than 300 Nigerian soldiers fled to Cameroon when Boko Haram insurgents overran Mubi, the second largest city in Borno State from security forces on Wednesday

Cameroonian military sources told our correspondent that Nigerian soldiers fled the north-eastern part of Nigeria, where the insurgency launched by the sect was raging, and crossed the Nigeria-Cameroon border.

We won’t support Jonathan in 2015 —Northern elders


As President Goodluck Jonathan declares his intention to run for second term in 2015, leaders of the North, under the auspices of the Northern Elders Forum, have expressed their decision to support any presidential candidate presented by the All Progressives Congress in the 2015 election.

They expressed their grievances with the ruling Peoples Democratic Party over the automatic ticket issued to President Goodluck Jonathan to seek a second term in the election. This, the elders said, had prevented aspirants from the North from contesting on the platform of the party.
