Senate stops N4bn first ladies’ mission house project


The Chairman of the Senate Committee on the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Abuja, Smart Adeyemi, stated this on Wednesday, while confirming that the Senate had passed the Abuja budget for 2013.

He said the proposed N4 billion for construction of the first ladies mission building in Africa was distributed to critical needs in satellite towns. He said the money to be spent on the mission building could not be approved due to litigation on the proposed land.

Dangote to site $8bn refinery in Olokola FTZ



Indications emerged on Wednesday that the $8bn refinery proposed by Africa’s richest man and President, Dangote Group, Alhaji Aliko Dangote, would be located at the Olokola Free Trade Zone, Ondo State. A senior official of the company, who asked not to be named because he was not authorized to speak on the matter, told our correspondent that the refinery would be located in the OFTZ.

Drama as fraud suspect slumps in court

There was confusion at a Chief Magistrate’s Court in Sabo, Lagos on Tuesday after a 48-year-old suspect standing trial for fraud, Mrs. Pearl Nwashali, slumped moments after she was called into the dock. It took the intervention of the registrar, warders and some people in the court to avert what seemed like an unfolding tragedy. She was later taken out of the dock to a seat.

Britain to compensate Kenyan victims over colonial-era torture


(Reuters) - Britain expressed regret on Thursday about the abuse of Kenyans by colonial forces during the Mau Mau insurgency in the 1950s and announced a compensation package for over 5,200 elderly survivors worth a total of 20 million pounds.
