Authority Says Land Dispute Is Between FCTA, Turai Yar’Adua


The parcel of land in dispute between former First Lady, Turai Yar’Adua and the FCT Administration belongs to African First Ladies Peace Mission (AFLPM), an official said. The Permanent Secretary of FCT Administration, John Chukwu, made the clarification at a press briefing in Abuja on Friday, saying AFLPM obtained the land in 2010.

Family appeals for Monguno’s release



The Family of Dr Shettima Ali Monguno, the elder statesman kidnapped in Maiduguri on Friday, has appealed to his abductors to release him without delay. Mr. Monguno was kidnapped by gunmen shortly after the Friday Jumat payer in his mosque in Mafoni, Maiduguri.

20 killed in sectarian violence in Nigeria

At least 20 people were killed in violent clashes between Christian and Muslim mobs in central Nigeria's Taraba state on Friday, prompting a round-the-clock curfew, an aid worker has told AFP. "We have recovered 20 bodies from the violence so far," the source said Saturday, adding that the unrest had occurred in the town of Wukari, some 200 kilometres (125 miles) from the state capital Jalingo.

Gunmen Kidnap Former Petroleum Minister, Shettima Munguno In Maiduguri

The recent warning to residents of Borno by the Joint Task Force (JTF) that the members of the Boko Haram sect now see kidnapping as more lucrative, is playing out already, as 92-year old elder statesmen; Shettima Ali Munguno has been kidnapped from a mosque in Maiduguri, north east of Nigeria.

The former Minister of Mines and Power and also Petroleum Minister was abducted by gunmen as he left the mosque after Jumat prayers on Friday, in the Mafoni ward area of the city.

Witnesses say Dr shettima was whisked away by four young and well-armed men as he was taken off to his house in GRA Maiduguri.

Fayemi Nominates Adelabu As New Deputy Governor


The Governor of Ekiti state, Kayode Fayemi has sent the name of the chairperson of the State’s Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Modupe Adelabu to the State House of Assembly for consideration as the new deputy governor of the state.

Governor Fayemi, in a letter dated 3 May 2013, addressed to the Speaker of the Assembly, Adewale Omirin, requested the House to consider Mrs Adelabu for the position of deputy governor, in the bid to fill the vacant position following the death of the former deputy governor, Funmilayo Olayinka, who died on 6 April 2013.

Mrs Adelabu, a Professor of Education at the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile –Ife, was Head of the Department of Education Administration and Planning of the institution before her appointment as Chairperson of Ekiti State SUBEB in July 2011.
