Students write JAMB exam without biometric verification

Poor internet network made the verification challenging in some centres.

Some candidates of the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination on Saturday in Akure, the Ondo State capital, wrote the examination conducted by the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB), without being able to do the required biometric data verification.

9 JAMB Candidates Die In Accident Today

No fewer than nine candidates going to sit for the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) examinations today were feared dead in an auto crash on the Aba-Port Harcourt Expressway.

The Public Relations Officer of the Abia State Police Command, Mr Geoffrey Ogbonna, said seven persons, including the driver died instantly while two others died later in hospital. The police did not identify the victims.

JAMB: Over 1 million Students Will Be Denied Admission

The federal government has stated that over 1 million candidates that sat for the University Tertiary Matriculation Examinations (UTME) on Saturday, may not gain admission into the nation’s tertiary institutions due to lack of space.

The Minister of Education, Professor Ruqayyatu Rufai, made this known at a news conference in Abuja on Saturday while invigilating the UTME that the current capacity of tertiary institutions across the country is only about 500,000.

Student Offers $1,000 for Data on Stolen Laptop

How much is a graduate school thesis worth? At least $1,000 - to the thesis writer, anyway.

That's the price Jingming Zhang, 28, a Ph.D. candidate in chemistry at Rutgers University, in New Brunswick, N.J., is offering for the data on his laptop, which was stolen on April 19. Zhang was so distraught that he posted a flyer on the wall of the Wright-Rieman building, from where his computer was taken sometime between 10 a.m. and 5:15 p.m.
