Lamido, Amaechi’s 2015 posters flood Kaduna


Posters of Governor Sule Lamido of Jigawa State and his Rivers State counterpart, Mr. Rotimi Ameachi, announcing their intention to contest the 2015 presidential poll on the platform of the Peoples Democracy Party have flooded Kaduna. This came less than 48 hours after prominent politicians in the North central zone boycotted the party’s reconciliation meeting on Saturday.

INEC may register mega opposition party as APC


The opposition coalition party, All Progressives Congress, on Monday ‘won’ its first victory with the Independent National Electoral Commission refusing to register the African Peoples Congress, thus creating an opportunity for the coalition platform to register its preferred acronym, APC. The INEC said promoters of the African Peoples Congress failed to meet the requirements for the registration of parties and that the association breached Section 222 (a) of the 1999 Federal Constitution, as amended.

Ojukwu family withdraws suits over property dispute


Three of the suits arising from family tussle over the properties left behind by the late Ikemba Nnewi, Chief Chukwuemeka Odumegwu-Ojukwu, might have been resolved out of court. The Lagos High Court sitting in Igbosere struck out the suits following the notice of discontinuance. One of the suits was initially instituted against the former warlord’s wife, Bianca.

Soyinka accuses leaders of patronising marabouts, prophets


NOBEL Laureate, Prof. Wole Soyinka, has decried the rate at which Nigerian leaders consult marabouts and prophets in a bid to hold onto political power. Nigerian leaders, he said, were in the habit of sacrificing animals in order to remain in power. Soyinka spoke in Port Harcourt on Monday at a two-day education summit.

Residents of four streets surrounding the Dana plane crash site in Iju Ishaga outskirts of Lagos have cried out against the planned demotion exercise being conducted by the Lagos state Ministry of Works. The planned
demolition according to the Lagos state government is to construct access roads in all the four streets namely, Okusanya, Idowu Williams, Ikoforiji and Olaniyi streets.

Nobody was Beheaded In Ogun, Police


Contrary to the rumors going round the town that three beheaded corpses were dumped on the Ijebu-Ode-Ibadan expressway on Sunday, the Ogun Police Command yesterday dispelled the rumour that three beheaded corpses were dumped. The command’s spokesman, Muyiwa Adejobi, said in a statement on Monday in Abeokuta copy of which was made available to our correspondent, the described the message as a mere rumour, calculated to create fears in the minds of the people.
