England won’t sack Hodgson despite Three Lions exit

(AFP) – Roy Hodgson will stay on as England manager until 2016 despite his side’s chastening group-stage elimination from the World Cup, Football Association chairman Greg Dyke announced on Friday.

“We are supportive of Roy Hodgson and would like him to stay as manager,” Dyke said in comments reported by British media shortly before England’s exit was confirmed by Costa Rica’s 1-0 victory over Italy in Recife.

(AFP) – FIFA said Friday it has withdrawn Colombian linesman Humberto Clavijo from World Cup match duties after he flagged in error for two offsides in Mexico’s 1-0 victory over Cameroon.

Two goals by Mexico’s Giovani Dos Santos were ruled offside in Friday’s Group A game. FIFA did not give details of the incidents ruled errors.

Police Arrest woman for Selling Baby For N30,000

The Lagos State Police command has arrested a middle-aged woman for allegedly selling a two-month-old baby for N30,000.

The suspect identified as Mrs Victor according to Police sources was arrested at her residence in Sabo Ilaje area of Lagos, following a tip off.

Police sources at the State Criminal Investigation Department where the suspect is currently being detained, told Crime Guard that there was a complaint that the suspect was engaged in child trafficking. When she was arrested, she confessed to have sold a two month-old baby for N30,000. She is yet to state the name of the buyer nor give us her contact. She still insists she did not know the person. Investigation is still on-going Police sources said

Italy to repatriate 700 Nigerian prisoners

The Italian Ambassador to Nigeria, Fulvius Rusticu, on June 19th revealed plans by the Italian Government to repatriate 700 Nigerian prisoners currently serving jail time in Italian prisons. While speaking with pressmen in Abuja, Fulvius said Italian and Nigerian Govt officials were in talks for a Transfer Agreement (PTA) and would meet first week in July in Rome to conclude negotiations. He said bringing the prisoner closer home is in the interest of the prisoners.

LASU reopens June 23rd

The management of the Lagos State University, LASU, has announced the resumption of academic activities in the school. The school re-opens June 23rd after it was shut down following weeks of students' protest over increase in school fees. The school fees have since been reduced.

Anger as Abacha’s daughter hails God over N446.3bn charges

Daughter of the late maximum ruler, Gumsu Sani-Abacha, has attributed the withdrawal of the N446.3bn theft charges instituted against her brother, Mohammed, to an act of God.

The Federal Government, through the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Mr. Mohammed Adoke, had on Wednesday withdrawn the theft case asking the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory to strike out the charges.
