Gunmen Kill 69 People in Katsina State


69 people including men, women and children were killed in separate attacks and several houses razed in 3 villages in Katsina State this week. Fulani Herdsmen have been accused of being behind the recent attack.

Confirming the attack to AFP, a lawmaker in the state, Honorable Abbas Abdullahi Michika said the men attacked three villages; Mararrabar Maigor, Kura Mota and Maigura Villages, where 47, 7 and 8 bodies were recovered from each village respectively

A Nigerian couple, two senior workers in Britain’s health sector - Dr Emmanuel Edet, 59, and his wife Antan Edet, 56, have been accused of secretly enslaving a man for a quarter of a century. And according to DailyMail, Scotland Yard is investigating after the alleged slave, also a Nigerian man, walked into a police station and claimed he was being held as a slave.

Gov Peter Obi rewards 1st Class Anambra graduates with N1m each


Yesterday at the Alex Ekwueme Square in Anambra state, Anambra Governor Peter Obi presented a cheque of N160 million which is to be disbursed to 160 first class graduates who are origins of the state. The Governor said it was a gesture by his administration to encourage undergraduate students to strive for academic excellence.

He directed that none of the recepients should be given cash but the money should be paid into their various accounts for better utilization.

38-Year-Old Caught with 18 Human Skulls in Ogun (PHOTO)


The Ogun State Police Command, yesterday, said it had nabbed a 38-year-old man, Adelani Ayomide, with a bag containing 18 human skulls.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi, in a statement, said the suspected ritualist was arrested at 6:48am, yesterday, on Ado-Odo, Owode Road by policemen attached to a division in Ado-Odo-Ota Local Government Area of the state.

LAGOS— If the claim by Petroleum Tanker Drivers, PTD, Association is anything to go by, there is likely to be another round of scarcity of Premium Motor Spirit, PMS, otherwise known as petrol, as most tankers are currently stranded in Lagos due to unavailability of the product in Apapa depots.

Tokyo police arrest man for giving Toshiba data to South Korean company


Tokyo – Tokyo police on Thursday arrested a man suspected of sharing proprietary data from Technology Company, Toshiba Corp, with a South Korean company, local media reported.

The 52-year-old man had access to the data when he worked as an engineer at SanDisk Corp, which produces memory chips jointly with Toshiba, police told the Kyodo News Agency.

Jamaican Rapper Vybz Kartel Found Guilty of Murder


After a trial that has lasted over 65 days, embattled dancehall superstar Vybz Kartel has been found guilty of murder.

Kartel, 38, whose real name is Adidja Palmer, had been in custody since September 2011 and went on trial on November 20. He was charged with the murder of 27-year-old Clive ‘Lizard’ Williams. Prosecutors had alleged Clive Williams was beaten to death at Kartel's home in August 2011 after being lured there to answer  for two missing illegal guns. His body has never been found.

Reps uncover fresh missing N35bn


More revelations by the House of Representatives Committee on Public Accounts indicated on Thursday that the Office of the Head of Service of the Federation could not account for N35bn it collected from the Service Wide Vote within nine years.

While the records of the Budget Office of the Federation showed that the OHSF received N52bn between 2004 and 2012, the Permanent Secretary, Mr. Remi Adelakun, admitted only N17.6bn.

Narrating his ordeal in the hands of his captors, Nitabai, a former university lecturer, said his abductors fed him with garri and oil for the 18 days he was held captive. He also said he was blindfolded throughout the period.

MAIDUGURI (AFP) – Suspected Boko Haram Islamists armed with explosives attacked a residential neighbourhood and a military barracks in Nigeria’s troubled northeastern city of Maiduguri on Friday, witnesses said.

Boko Haram, which says it wants to create a strict Islamic state in northern Nigeria, has killed thousands of people in its four-and-half-year uprising and the military has struggled to contain the violence.

Landing gear of US Airways plane collapses


More than 150 people were evacuated from a US Airways flight after a Florida-bound plane’s front landing gear collapsed on a runway.

Flights were halted at Philadelphia International Airport as those on board exited the plane via inflatable ramps. One person asked for medical assistance but no major injuries were reported, airport officials said.
