Two Die as Building Collapses in Akure This Morning


2 people have been confirmed dead after a building under construction collapsed early this morning around7 in Akure, Ondo State. Reports say the building which was to be used as a boarding house for a private school, came crumbling down as workers on the site arrived to begin the day's job. Two teenagers died in the incident while two others sustained injuries and have been rushed to the hospital for medical attention

Pistorius Sells Home Where He Shot Girlfriend Dead


PRETORIA (AFP) – Oscar Pistorius has sold the upmarket Pretoria home where he shot dead his girlfriend, as legal fees mounted from his lengthy murder trial that continued Friday.

The Paralympian’s estate agent Ansie Louw told AFP she now had a buyer for the $480,000-plus house.

Chilling CCTV captures moment man attempted to lead toddler away from his mum


These chilling images show the moment a man appears to lead a toddler away from his mother in a busy shopping centre. In shocking CCTV footage, the young family can be seen walking through the shopping centre in Derby, East Midlands. At one point (far left), the unnamed mother walks very slightly ahead of her child - and seconds later a man wearing a dark jacket and a cap appears. He then approaches the 22-month-old (second left) as the child follows his mother into a store. The man then appears to try and persuade the child to walk off with him (second right). But the unnamed mother turns around (right) and challenges the man, who then seems to apologize and walk off.

Police are now appealing for witnesses to this shocking incident - which took place on Thursday morning. Continue...

SHOCKER: Nigerian Army Ignored Warning 4 Hours Before Chibok Kidnap – Amnesty


LAGOS (AFP) – Nigeria’s military had advanced warning of the April 14 attack by Boko Haram that led to the kidnapping of more than 200 schoolgirls but failed to take immediate action, Amnesty International said Friday.

“Damning testimonies gathered by Amnesty International reveal that Nigerian security forces failed to act on advance warnings about Boko Haram’s armed raid on the state-run boarding school in Chibok which led to the abduction,” the rights group said.

Jonathan: Girls’ abduction, beginning of B’Haram’s end


President Goodluck Jonathan on Thursday said he believed that with the global efforts to find and rescue the over 200 girls abducted from their school by Boko Haram insurgents, an end to the reign of terror in Nigeria had begun.

Jonathan, who once again promised that the girls would be rescued, spoke at the opening session of the ongoing World Economic Forum for Africa in Abuja.

Missing $20bn: PriceWaterHouse begins forensic audit of NNPC


The Federal Government has appointed forensic auditors to carry out a detailed investigation into the activities of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation.

The Minister of Finance, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, disclosed this during a debate at the 24th edition of the World Economic Forum for Africa.

Ibadan flood sweeps away motorist, other


A man was said to have been swept away with his car during a torrential rain in Ibadan on Thursday while another man identified as Ayuba also lost his life.

An eyewitness said the motorist was travelling along Omotara Agboola bridge when he missed his way and drove into the river below.

Boko Haram have reportedly bombed the sole bridge linking Borno State, Nigeria & Cameroun. The small bridge which is located at the border town of Gamboru Ngala, was bombed today, cutting off some residents of the area from their families who live in Cameroon.

Northern Nigeria Christian Association alleges conspiracy in Chibok Abduction


The Northern Nigeria Chapter of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) yesterday released a statement expressing reservations and alleging conspiracy in the Chibok schoolgirls abduction.

The chapter said they believe the kidnapping is a conspiracy involving the governor of the state, Kashim Shettima, the principal of the school, the chief security officer of Borno & the commissioner for Education. In the statement, they asked how 300+ girls can disappear into air without any trace and where the daughters of the principal, vice principal & CSO of the state were when the kidnapping took place, and why no single photograph of the Chibok girls has been made public by school authorities.

Gov Godswill Akpabio expresses reservations about abducted girls

EFCC Arrests Prisons Accountant Over N200m


The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has arrested the head of Capital Accounts at the Nigerian Prisons Service, NPS, Abuja, for alleged corruption, money laundering and abuse of public office.

Imaobong Akon Esu-Nte, a level 14 officer, who is on secondment to the NPS from the Federal Ministry of Finance, was picked up by the operatives of the EFCC, Tuesday, and grilled for several hours over the huge amount of money found in companies’ accounts all traced to her.

Court Throws Trader and Housewife in Jail Over Adultery


Jos – An Upper Area Court in Jos, Plateau, has ordered a trader, Mohammed Rabiu, and a housewife, Asabe Mati, both accused of adultery, to be remanded in prison pending hearing of their bail applications.

Teacher accused of instructing a boy to punch another in the face, twice



A Watt Hardison Elementary School teacher in Portland, Tennessee has been suspended while officials investigate an accusation that she encouraged a third grader to punch a second grader in the face, twice.

As reported by WTVF NewsChannel 5, Brandie Dobson, the second grade victim’s mother, said that the educator’s surprising behavior stemmed from a school bus fight between her son and his friend on Thursday afternoon. Dobson told the station, “The little boy (third grader) had pushed him and hit his brother and cousin. So he hit him back.”
