Police arraign 40-yr-old driver for manslaughter

The police on Thursday arraigned a driver, Adewale Adesanya, 40, before an Ota Magistrates’ Court in Ogun on a two-count charge of manslaughter and reckless driving.

The police prosecutor, Cpl. Rosemary Brown, told the court that the accused committed the offence on Sept. 27 at 2.30 p.m. near Excel Primary School on Ilogbo-Oju-Ore road, Sango Ota.

US Navy Rescues 128 African Migrants from Mali, Nigeria, Senegal in rough seas

ROME (AFP) – A US warship has rescued 128 African migrants from an inflatable raft that was threatening to capsize in rough seas in the Mediterranean after a request from Malta, officials said Thursday.

The USS San Antonio, which is equipped with an amphibious transport dock that can help in rescue operations, was scrambled on Wednesday after a Maltese military aircraft spotted the dinghy.

Ministry confirms purchase of N255m vehicles for Aviation Minister, Stella Oduah

The Ministry of Aviation has confirmed that the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority bought two bulletproof vehicles worth $1.6m (N255m) for the Minister of Aviation, Ms. Stella Oduah.

An online news medium, SaharaReporters,had reported on Tuesday that the armoured vehicles were delivered to the minister in August.

3 MEN Arrested For killing father and Attacking 10-month-old Daughter

Three suspected cult members have been remanded at the Ikoyi Prison for allegedly killing a 30-year-old man, Seyi Jimoh, and inflicting injuries on his ten-month-old baby with cutlass.

Saheed Waliu, the 28-year-old, who was in a coma five months after being allegedly brutalised by some policemen, is dead.

Waliu was said to have given up the ghost at about 9am last Sunday at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, Ikeja, Lagos.

10 feared dead in Kwara Sallah tragedy

About 10 people were feared dead while scores were reportedly injured on Wednesday night following a stampede near the Ilofa residence of a former Governor of Kwara State, Dr. Bukola Saraki.

Unconfirmed reports indicated that no fewer than 10 people were feared dead as a result of the stampede.

The incident happened when some members of the Peoples Democratic Party in the state and some other hangers-on were receiving yearly Sallah gifts from the Sarakis and other philantropists at the venue popularly called PDP Charity House.
