Bill On Lawmakers Immunity Passes Second Reading


A bill to give immunity to members of the legislature in Nigeria in Abuja on Thursday passed its second reading at the House of Representatives. The bill seeks to amend Section 4(8) of the 1999 Constitution as amended by providing immunity for members of both Federal and State legislatures in respect of the words spoken or written at plenary sessions and committees proceedings.

Jonathan Urges Nigerians To Join In Nation Building



President Goodluck Jonathan on Thursday in Abuja urged Nigerians to join hands to build a better country. The president made the call at the launch and Public Presentation of 15 books written by a lawyer, Mr Job Dangana. Drug-Addicted Doctor Bags 14-Yrs Imprisonment For Infecting 55 With Hepatitis


A drug-addicted Australian doctor who pleaded guilty to negligently infecting 55 patients with hepatitis C at a Melbourne birth control clinic was sentenced on Thursday to 14 years imprisonment. The court was told anesthetist James Peters, 63, would inject himself with the drug fentanyl, a narcotic pain reliever and tranquillizer, before using the same syringe to administer the drug to his patients.

Jonathan visits Borno, Yobe today

PRESIDENT Goodluck Jonathan will today begin a two-day visit to crisis-torn Borno and Yobe states, the first time he would be making such visit since the 2011 presidential election campaign. The visit follows last Thursday’s presence in Maiduguri of opposition state governors under the platform of the newly formed All Progressive Congress (APC).

Lagos Assembly wants Fashola to stall sale of Egbin Thermal Station

Lagos State House of Assembly, on Monday, decried the sale of Egbin Thermal Station in Ikorodu by the Federal Government to a foreign firm and called Governor Babatunde Fashola to do everything to stall the sale and ensure that the state was given the first right of offer. The assembly took this resolution at a plenary session when the member representing the host community at the Assembly, Honourable Adebimpe Akinsola, decried the way and manner the power station was sold without any consideration for the host community and state.
