55 Suspected Armed Robbers, cultists arrested in Nasarawa

The nasarawa state police command have arrested 55 suspected armed robbers and cult members mostly youths, while three AK 47 rifle, one mark four rifles, two locally made pistols, as well as three locally made short guns and three locally made fake toy guns were all recovered from the suspects and 12 bags of 50kg of Indian hemp.

Parading the suspects at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Lafia Friday, the state capital, the newly posted Commissioner of Police who declared war on robbers and criminals in his first interactive session with press men, Mr. Ibrahim Idris said the suspects were 40 armed robbers and 15 cult members who were arrested in various operations within and outside the state capital.

Idris said the command under his instructions was able to arrest them through the various proactive strategies, intelligence-led and community-based policing, raiding of criminal hideouts, strategic napping point deployment, vehicular patrol as well as foot patrol and others.

According to him, this has impacted positively in crime prevention and control within the state, and as a result, peace and tranquility returned to the state. The police were able to recover one stolen Toyota Camry model, 1998; 105 of 7.62mm rounds of live ammunition, 17 of 9mm rounds of live ammunition and three empty shells. Others are Army bullet proof jacket, criminal charms, poisonous machetes, one knife and one iron axe.

The CP called on sister security agents, traditional institutions, community leaders and members of the general public to cooperate with the police in fighting crime in the state. He assured that the command would continue to re-strategize its crime prevention and control methodology for the year 2014.

“The command has introduced two Police emergency No 081-23821571 and 070-59493022 which are available to the general public on 24hrs basis in case of any distress call or providing useful information for the police”, he stated.

Similarly the CP has called on politicians in the state to warn their followers to desist from thurgery as the command will no longer tolerates any act of electoral malpractices and ballot snatching in the forth coming local government election in the state.

He also called on parents and guardians to warn their wards of being use by politicians to perpetrate violence during and after election saying “anyone caught in any electoral offences shall be dealt with appropriately. It is not going to be business as usual”.
