Students write JAMB exam without biometric verification

Poor internet network made the verification challenging in some centres.

Some candidates of the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination on Saturday in Akure, the Ondo State capital, wrote the examination conducted by the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB), without being able to do the required biometric data verification.

The failure of the candidates to observe the biometric data capturing was due to variation in the internet network which caused delay in the commencement of the examination in some centres in Akure, the Ondo State capital.

At a particular centre in the state capital, the supervisor was forced to allow the candidates enter the examination halls when the delay was getting too long.

However, at some centres, biometric verification was done for majority of candidates; while few could not be captured.

At the St Peter Unity Secondary School, Akure, the examination official, Fabiyi Oluwasegun, said 519 out of the 540 that were supposed to write the examination were captured while the remaining ones were allowed to write the examination.

The supervisor for the centre, Adeniran Taiwo, a principal accountant with theFederal University of Technology Akure (FUTA) said the candidates were allowed to write the examination; and he would explain that to the examination body in his report.

He said the registration number of all the affected candidates had been recorded and would be contained in the report.

At the Oyemekun Grammar School centre, the coordinator, Adeleye Francis, the Vice Principal, Academic of the school, said all the 190 candidates were captured before they commenced the examination.

At St Louis Girls Secondary School, Akure, about 30 candidates, who were unable to do the biometric data capture were allowed to write the test.

The poor network, which led to the delay in the commencement of the test, heightens the fear among observers that the computer based test may confront more challenges due to infrastructural problems.
