Bayelsa guber race: INEC includes Dickson’s name

The name of the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, for the forth-coming governorship race in Bayelsa State, Hon. Henry Seriake Dickson, has been included in the list of candidates contesting the election by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
The inclusion came as a result of court order by Justice Gladys Olotu of the Federal High Court, Abuja on Wednesday.
Mr Kayode Idowu, the Chief Press Secretary to the INEC Chairman, Prof. Attahiru Jega, confirmed that the Commission received the order on Wednesday, stating further that as a law-abiding commission, INEC would go ahead to obey the order.

The order was sequel to an ex-parte application dated January 17, which sought an order of mandamus compelling the electoral body to forthwith publish the list of parties and their candidates in Bayelsa State, with the name of Dickson and his party, PDP, as contestant for the gubernatorial poll.

Justice Olotu, who made the order, equally directed that a copy of the court order and relevant court process, be served on INEC by substituted means, to wit, pasting it at the front gate of the commission’s head office in Abuja.

Before adjourning to January 26 for accelerated hearing on the substantive suit, Justice Olotu insisted that INEC should comply with the order pending the determination of the motion on notice.

Meanwhile, Governor Timipre Sylva has cried foul, alleging that Justice Olotu granted the order in the chambers.
Sylva in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Doifie Ola, said the order was made in total disregard to a pending suit before the Supreme Court, saying the lower court by delving into the same subject matter, abused the tenets of judicial hierarchy.

He, therefore, pleaded with INEC to disregard the said order and await the outcome of the pending litigations.
