5 suspects escape from NDLEA custody

FIVE high-profile drug suspects have escaped from the custody of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in Abuja.Nigerian Tribune exclusively gathered that the incident took place at the NDLEA command post located in a suburb of Abuja on Saturday afternoon and the escaped suspects were yet to be re-arrested as of the time of filing this report.

The identities of the suspects could however not be ascertained even as sources disclosed that suspects kept in the said cell were mostly high profile.

An eyewitness account told the Nigerian Tribune that the suspects broke the toilet window of their cell located on the third floor and scaled the fence to escape.

The source further revealed that they were already outside the fence running into a nearby bush before the armed guards on duty were alerted and a chase commenced to re-arrest them.

While no official of the agency was ready to speak on the escape, the agency, on Monday, used cement blocks to seal off the window through which the suspects escaped.
