PDP postpones BoT, NEC meetings

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has postponed its Board of Trustees (BoT) and National Executive Committee (NEC) meetings earlier slated for Wednesday and today indefinitely. The leadership of the party has also suspended its recheduled congresses and national convention. It was gathered that the party’s leadership after, a caucus meeting on Tuesday night in Abuja, resolved to suspend further activities relating to the congresses and the national convention now to allow for adequate preparations for the forthcoming governorship elections.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had fixed the governorship elections in Adamawa, Bayelsa, Sokoto and Cross River states for between February 4 - 25 this year.

“It is true, both the BoT and NEC meetings have been postponed. We have governorship elections in four states all fixed for this month, so we have to face that first. Our congresses and national convention will come later. The national convention comes up once in four years, so, we still have time for that. We cannot control INEC over the governorship and other elections already fixed for this month,” a source said.

The postponed BoT and NEC meetings of the party, it was gathered, were called in the first instance, to ratify the new zoning arrangements of the party ahead of its national convention.
