Building Collapse: Lagos Demolishes 2-Storey Building

A two-storey building that partially collapsed after a heavy downpour on Tuesday at 49 Freeman Street, Oyingbo area of Lagos State has been demolished by the state government.Chief Executive Officer, Lagos State Emergency Management Agencies (LASEMA), Dr. Femi Oke-Osanyintolu, said the state government decided to demolish the entire building to avert its imminent collapse on neighbouring buildings and its inhabitants.

He said officials of LASEMA have been on ground having rescued people trapped in the building, saying there was no casualty, as his rescue team arrived on time to rescue those trapped in the building.

He said government had evacuated everyone from the building and sealed it up before the demolition squad went to begin the demolition of the building.

Osanyintolu said some of those rescued from the building included a pregnant woman, a nine month- old baby, children and others.

In consonance with the existing laws of the state, the landlord of the house still at large will have the title of the land revoked by the state government.
