SAHCOL warns workers against pilfering of passengers’ luggage

The Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Skyway Aviation Handling Company Limited, Mr. Olu Owolabi, said on Wednesday that the company would not tolerate pilfering of passengers’ luggage at airports.Owolabi gave the warning while addressing journalists at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, according to the News Agency of Nigeria.

He said seven members of staff, who were caught pilfering passengers’ luggage, were recently sacked.

“We have been getting commendations from the various airlines for handling their passengers’ luggage, either locally or internationally,” Owolabi said.

The director assured passengers of safety of their luggage, adding that with the installation of more conveyor belts by the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria, passengers would collect their luggage on time.

Owolabi said SAHCOL’s modern warehouse would soon be completed, as construction had reached 60 per cent completion.

He said the company would send some of its workers to the United States, United Kingdom and South Africa for training so as to man the modern equipment to be installed in the warehouse.

“Those that will be trained abroad will also impart such training on others,” he said.

Owolabi said currently, the company, with 1,184 workers, was carrying out ground handling services for 14 local and international airlines.

“SAHCOL controls about 35 per cent of the market share in luggage ground handling area internationally and 90 per cent of the same market in domestic luggage handling,” he said.
