The woman, who identified herself only by her first name, is a native of Nnewi town, Anambra State, but resided with her family in Borno State.
Ngozi begged with her husband to leave their apartment before the insurgents attack them. However, her husband adviced her to calm down, reasoning that it would be better if they stayed inside the house than be hit by stray bullets outside. Furthermore, he said, the government security agents could claim they belonged to the terrorist sect if their bodies were found outside.
After this, the woman has decided to leave the area. She sneaked out to her friend's residence which is far away from the Government Girls Secondary School, Chibok, the site of abduction.
The next morning, Ngozi informed her husband she wouldn't stay in Borno State. Since the man refused to follow her, she had to leave both her husband and son.
In an interview with Leadership, Ngozi, a trader, said she had married her husband, Adamu, five years ago, despite her brother's opposition to their union. However, she said, she refuses to "die like a chicken" and would leave North for Anambra, her home state.
Despite the emergency rule that has been imposed in Adamawa, Yobe and Borno states since last year, Borno State has come under intense Boko Haram attacks that claimed hundreds of lives in just one month.
