We ‘ll be transparent in our legislative actions – Tambuwal



ABUJA— SPEAKER House of Representatives, Mr Aminu Tambuwal, yesterday set an all encompassing legislative agenda to span the four-year duration of the 7th Assembly and pledged to be transparent in all legislative duties within this period.
After holding an executive session that lasted over three hours with his colleagues, Tambuwal said in a bid to have an enduring 7th Assembly session, the House members resolved to set a legislative agenda that would be transparent in all its legislative affairs.
Tambuwal declared that the general principles of the legislative agenda include: Review of the internal processes—oversight, salaries, allowances and running of costs— e-Parliament, archiving and documentation, national economy and budgetary process, federal revenue disclosures, reducing cost of governance, priority legislation and policy issues centred on constitution reform process, engagement with stakeholders-House relationships and monitoring and evaluation.
The Speaker said the 7th Assembly was determined to improve legislative processes and standards to achieve better and optimum results in law making.
He explained further that “in the composition of membership and leadership of committees, special attention would be paid to the skills and relevant experience of members in order to achieve greater efficiency and strict compliance with existing House Rules and Code of Conduct for members will be required as a check on chairmen of committees and members who violate them.
