The Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) in charge of Zone 7, Alhaji Atiku Kafur, has said that no fewer than 212 suspects have been arrested by the police for their alleged involvement in the Wednesday’s riot in Minna and attempted attack on Lambatta police station in Gawu Babangida Local Government Area of the state.
Kafur stated this in an interactive session with the newsmen in Minna on Thursday, adding that 65 of the suspected hoodlums were arrested on Thursday at Lambatta, while attempting to hijack the police station and in the process injured a senior police officer.
The policeboss said the suspected hoodlums failed in their alleged attempt to attack and sack the station, as the police were said to have been able to overcome them and arrested those that were said to have been weilding dangerous weapons such as locally made pistols and cutlasses.
He, however, stated that nobody was killed during the incident, saying “in fact, the hoodlums had surrounded my car and challenged us. We, therefore, had to act, leading to the arrest of these hoodlums.
Karfur said 86 persons were arrested for attacks on government and private buildings in Minna on Wednesday and for public disturbances.
