A clash between rival factions of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) in Lagos brought business and normal activities to a standstill in the Lagos Island axis of the state , leaving 15 people dead and several others severely injured.LEADERSHIP gathered that the mayhem which brought the highbrow Lagos metropolis on its knees, was a renewed clash between Isale-eko and Onola/Agarawu/Itafaji boys over the on-going crisis involving two factions of the National Union of Road Transport workers in Lagos Island.
In the ensuing melee, several people sustained injuries, while over 20 vehicles parked along Palm church and Isalegangan Streets were vandalized and burnt to ashes.
A building housing 'New Star Photo' on Isalegangan Street was not spared in the attack as the ground floor and some upper parts of the two storey building were set ablaze by the miscreants.
Our correspondent gathered that the volatile 'Isale eko boys' with help from outside, numbering over 60 youths, dressed in black and armed with guns, cutlasses and iron rods stormed Onola area through Agarawu and Itafaji areas around 2 am for the free for all battle.
An eyewitness who pleaded anonymity said that the invaders lay siege to the area and started shooting into air, daring anyone to come out and challenge them.
" There was no light as a result of power outage .It was the night guards along Palm Church area that started to whistle to alert residents who were sleeping outside their building that trouble was lurking round the corner. So many people now locked up themselves," the resident said.
