Senate to probe N2 trillion pension fund

THE Senate is set to probe the sum of N2 trillion paid to an unspecified number of pensioners, just as it implored states that have not joined the contributory pension fund of the Federal Government to join in time, in order to avoid delay during payment. Chairman of the joint Senate committee on Establishment, State and Local Government, Senator Aloysius Etok, who made this known on Monday, mentioned Enugu, Rivers and Kebbi as states yet to join the scheme.

Senator Etok, while speaking with newsmen on Monday, said in spite of the over N2 trillion so far paid by the Federal Government, many of the retirees were yet to be paid, noting that government was paying N3 billion every month as pension to the retired civil servants.

He said the committee was inundated with complaints from the retired civil servants across the country, while he advised states that were yet to key into the contributory pension scheme to do so in the interest of the retirees who had served the country meritoriously.
