Police recover 19 rifles, 25 ammunition from suspected robbers in Anambra

THE Anambra State police command on Wednesday, in Anambra, recovered arms and ammunition from suspected armed robbers and kidnappers in different parts of Onitsha.Nigerian Tribune gathered that the operatives of the Anambra State Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS), acting on a tip-off, swooped on the shops located in different parts of the commercial city, following a confession by one armed robbery suspect arrested by the police in the state.According to the state’s Commissioner of Police, Mr Balla Nasarawa, the recovery of the arms and ammunition, which included three AK 47 rifles, one Brownie pistol, 13 automatic and two manual pump action rifles, 1225 live cartridges and 25 ammunition for the Brownie pistol were recovered following a tip-off.

The police source said that, an armed robbery suspect, (names withheld) had told the police upon interrogation about the whereabouts of the arms and ammunition of the gang, which helped the men of the SARS to storm the places, where the arms were stored and recovered them.

During the operation, a total number of three AK 47 rifles and one Brownie pistol were recovered, while a total number of 13 automatic and two manual pump action rifles were also recovered by the police.

On the number of the ammunition recovered by the operatives of the SARS, a total number of 1250 ammunition, which included 1225 live cartridges and 25 ammunition for Brownie pistol were also recovered.

However, the police said, they have launched an aggressive manhunt for the remaining members of the armed robbery and kidnap gangs, who have terrorised the state in recent times, adding that, with the recent development, the state police command has been better rejuvenated to tackle the problem of insecurity in Anambra State.
