A middle aged man, Mr. Edwin Jato popularly called Torjor, of Naka town in Gwer West Local Government Area of Benue State has killed five of his brothers in the earth dam situated in the area. He threw all of them in the water and fled.The ugly incident, which happened on Sunday night, occurred when the culprit had reportedly asked the brothers to follow him to the dam so that he could reveal to them the cause of his madness. He killed them in the dam with a dangerous weapon and hurriedly left to an unknown destination.
It was gathered that some members of the community had quickly organised themselves when they heard the sad news and traced the madman to the place where he was hiding and allegedly killed him.
However, LEADERSHIP further gathered that the insane culprit was, few months ago, allegedly treated of mental illness at the psychiatric department of the Federal Medical Centre, Makurdi and that he became sane until last Sunday when the insanity reoccurred.
Consequently, the Chairman of Gwer West Local Government, Mrs Eunice Mbajwa who expressed sadness over the incident had deployed security operatives to the area to maintain law and order. She said that the lunatic actually killed five brothers but, according to her, he has since been killed by angry mob.
Police Public Relations’ Officer (PPRO) DSP Daniel Ezeala confirmed the incident and said, “The man killed five persons but some members of the community used jungle justice on the man and they killed him.” He said investigation into the matter was ongoing to ascertain the insanity of the lawbreaker.
