Centenary celebration: Accord Party chides FG

The Accord Party (AP), at the weekend, said it was against the planned centenary celebration that is being put together by the Federal Government, describing the excise as another jamboree and a waste of public fund amidst growing poverty and unemployment.
Speaking on behalf of the party in a signed statement made available to journalists in Benin City, the National Secretary of the party, Dr Samson Isibor, while calling on the federal government to shelve the planned celebration, stated that “the most pressing need of many Nigerians now is how to ensure that they have food to eat”.

Commenting on the state of the nation, Dr Isibor regretted that the South-West geopolitical zone had been greatly marginalised, adding that leaders of the zone must ensure the zone received its fair share in terms of political representation.

The party also stated that it agreed with the Edo State governor, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, that the Good Governance Tour, led by Information and Orientation Minister, Mr Labaran Maku, was a jamboree that should not be encouraged.

“The Good Governance Tour, as we see it, is a wasteful exercise which has nothing to offer the Nigerian masses. It is another means of pilfering the nation’s treasury”, Dr. Isibor said.
