Fire Destroys 80 Houses In Adamawa



A midday inferno has razed down 80 houses in the sleepy Ndiyam Jambote village in Mayo Belwa local government area of Adamawa State. The fire started from one of the houses and spread to other buildings, which were mostly thatched houses.The incident allegedly occurred when a mother of five was unable to to put off the flame from her cooking utensils, which later engulfed the entire house and affected the others close to it.

Although no life was lost to the incident, LEADERSHIP WEEKEND learnt that property, including farm produce, domestic appliances and personal effects worth millions of naira were destroyed by the inferno.

An eyewitness told LEADERSHIP WEEKEND that most of the villagers had gone to farm while others were at the village market when the incident occurred.

Chairman of Mayo Belwa local government area, Hon. Mohammed Bako, sympathised with the victims, and promised to provide relief materials for them. He also made cash donations to them.
