Gunmen Kill Imam, Invade Prison, Police Station


Gunmen yesterday attacked a prison and police station in Ganye local government area of Adamawa State. The gunmen suspected to be members of the Boko Haram sect also struck in a bank and a beer parlour using improvised explosive devices (IEDs).
An eyewitness told LEADERSHIP Weekend that the gunmen struck in a commando style with the prison being their first target. He claimed that they later moved to the Ganye Divisional Police Station before proceeding to a second generation bank.

It was learnt that the invaders threw the town into confusion as the residents were caught unawares by the bandits when they stormed the town charting Allahu Akbar. The panic-stricken residents ran into different direction for safety as the hoodlums allegedly continued with their operations unchallenged.
At the time of filing this report, there was no information on the casualty level or possible escape of prisoners.
Another eyewitness account claimed that the attack lasted for 30 minutes after which the gunmen fled the scene.
The state comptroller of prisons, Andrew Barka and the public relations officer of the Adamawa police command, DSP Mohammed Ibrahim, confirmed the incident.
Meanwhile, gunmen have allegedly killed an Imam and the younger brother of the ward head of Layin Makkabarta, Jaen Quarters in Gwale local government of Kano State.
The victims were killed when the gunmen struck yesterday at a as hop in the area at 7pm. The Imam simply identified as Kabiru alias Kankul, 35, was known for translating the Quran (Tasfir) during the Ramadan (fasting).


The police later arrived at the scene and took away the bodies of the victims. The shop owner said the gunmen carted away his valuables.
