PDP Chairman Says APC Is Never A Threat

Mr Tunde Hunpatin, Chairman, Badagry Chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), said on Wednesday that the emergence of the All Progressive Congress (APC) was never a threat to his party. Hunpatin made this known in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Badagry, Lagos State.
He noted, however, that the was not taking the merger of some opposition parties lightly, adding that this would only motivate the PDP to strive harder.

“First and foremost, we are not taking the merger issue lightly right from the national level. Our national Chairman and Executives are handling it with serious concern. Because these are groups of people who say they want to gain power at all cost and you cannot sit down and watch them do that.

“But having said that, we do not see their coming together as a threat to our party because presently, our party controls 26 states out of 36. We do not see how they are going to thwart the success of the PDP in those states.

“In as much as we see the merging issue as a challenge, I also see it as an advantage to us because these are people that have not been used to each other. Their party programmes, constitutions, party ideologies, individuality contexts are all different.

“So, to merge at the eleventh hour simply because they want to wrestle power at all cost from PDP, will be highly impossible because we are firmly on ground,” he said.

Speaking on efforts of the party to regain power in the South Western States, he noted that PDP would leave no stone unturned.

“Presently, most states in the South West, being governed by our party before, are now being ruled by ACN, but I must tell you, our party is working really hard to ensure we gain these states back.

“And not only that, the party is doing all it can to reach out to the states which are not presently in our fold and by God's grace, in the next election, we shall achieve that,” he stated.
