PDP Reconciliation Fails: Tambuwal Kwankwaso, Others Shun Meeting

In what appears to be a protest against the leadership of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party, governors Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso of Kano State, Sule Lamido of Jigwa State, and Aliyu Magatakarda Wammakko of Sokoto State yesterday shunned the party’s chieftains who were in Kaduna as part of moves to reconcile aggrieved members of the party.

The governors were not represented by either their deputies or any government senior officials from their states. Even their various state chairmen of the party were conspicuously absent at the party’s North-West reconciliation meeting. Also, Speaker Aminu Waziri Tambuwal and other members of the National Assembly from the zone could not show up at the all-important meeting.

Only the governors of Kebbi, Usman Dakingari; Katsina, Ibrahim Shema ; and the host governor Mukhtar Ramalan Yero attended the meeting which also had in attendance the vice president, Namadi Sambo, some National Assembly members from the zone and former governors alongside the party’s national chairman, who led other executive members of the party to the meeting meant to reconcile party members from the zone.

This is coming on the heels of earlier reconciliation meetings in the other zones of the country that were shunned by leading party chieftains. In the South-West, former president Olusegun Obasanjo and all his allies stayed away when the party’s reconciliation train got there.

In the South-South, the duo of governors Rotimi Amaechi of Rivers State and his Delta State counterpart, Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan, walked out on the meeting that held in Port Harcourt.

In the North-Central, none of the five governors on the platform of the party honoured the invitation to attend the reconciliation meeting.

In the North-East zone, the party did not record a full-house attendance as former vice president Atiku Abubakar was among the chieftains that failed to attend the meeting.

However, the national publicity secretary of the party, Chief Olisa Metuh, has said that the party achieved success in its reconciliation efforts, noting that the party was now more formidable.
