The Satellite Town Central Residents Association (STCRA) has condemned the persistent power outage in the community. Mr Felix Egbamuno, the President of the association, made the remark in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos on Sunday. Egbamuno said that there was no power supply to Satellite town since the mid-January due to a fire incident at the Amuwo Transmission Station but residents continued to receive high bills.
According to him, despite the power outage, estimated bills are issued regularly and higher than usual, as if PHCN supplied electricity for 24 hours daily.
“This extortion is no more acceptable to the community especially when PHCN refuses to use meter readings for billings and have become insensitive to genuine customer complaints,” he said.
Egbamuno said that the Satellite undertaking and Amuwo Transmission Station had been upgraded, adding that to the residents’ surprise and discomfort, electricity supply to Satellite town had reduced significantly.
He said that business enterprises in the community had been crippled, adding that the cost of maintaining households had also escalated.
“We are demanding that PHCN be made to provide the service for which it was established and stop extorting money from our community. We are ready to pay for the energy we consume but will resist being coerced into paying arbitrary bills,’’ he said. (NAN)
