Old Friend charged over acid burn on Nigerian girl in London

A FORMER schoolmate of acid-burn victim Naomi Oni was yesterday charged with the attack which partly blinded her. Mary Konye, 21, is due in court this morning. Naomi, also 21, was on the phone to her boyfriend in Dagenham, East London, last December when she was splashed with sulphuric acid.
She spent a month in hospital and was left with bad facial scars.

The shop assistant said she was attacked by a woman in a niqab after leaving her work at Victoria’s Secret in Westfield Shopping Centre.

Koyne, of Canning Town, East London, and Naomi went to St Angela’s Ursuline Convent School, Forest Gate.

The charge comes after it was revealed police had investigated whether Naomi’s injuries were self-inflicted.
