FG lacks sense of good governance - Buhari

FORMER Military President and presidential candidate of the Congress for Progressive change (CPC), General Muhammadu Buhari, has described the administration of President Goodluck Jonathan as lacking the sense of good governance, noting that anarchy is on the increase in many parts of the country.

According to Buhari, who made this disclosure during the CPC convention held on Saturday at the Eagles Square, Abuja, the federal government had not demonstrated that it had the competence to govern the nation, adding that if the country must survive the current crisis, the National Assembly must take the lead in the quest for peace.

“We must explore every opportunity to save our country. This is a historic moment when several different political parties have resolved to come together to change Nigeria for the better and stop the mindless drift that has been going on for the last 14 years. We must seize this moment that calls for patriotism and sacrifice, it’s time to sacrifice everything; time, resources, ambition and ego for the greater good of the country,” Buhari stressed.

He, however, noted that the parties that formed the APC were equal, stressing that the merging parties must come together as one to unseat the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the forthcoming election.

According to him, the real time for change had finally come to Nigeria “and it must be now before it will be too late,” adding that government had failed in all facets.

Meanwhile, the Lagos State Governor, Mr Babatunde Fashola (SAN), who joined his colleague governors from Ogun and Imo states to attend the CPC convention, charged the Independent Electoral Commission (INEC) to write its name in history by ensuring that it is seen to have acted above board in delivering Nigeria’s first successful political merger.

Governor Fashola said INEC must not only be above board but must be seen by all Nigerians to have done so.

Also speaking, the governor of Ogun State, Senator Ibikunle Amosun said the All Progressives Congress (APC) is a party that has come to stay and would bring positive change to the government of Nigeria.

He also charged INEC to seize the moment to see that the merger comes into fruition because it is about the good people of Nigeria and not about any individual.

In another development, the former Minister of Aviation, Chief Femi Fani-Kayode, has congratulated the merging parties on their various conventions and their final resolutions to merge into the new party called APC, saying “this provides hope for Nigeria and it represents the only vehicle and platform that can deliver our nation from the hands of the PDP and the Jonathan administration.”
