Woman Tragically Run Over By Truck While Sunbathing in Park Next to Her Baby via @iTweetOdd

A woman was killed in the most tragic way in San Francisco’s Holly Park, as she was sunbathing with her baby girl and her dog when a man working for Parks and Recreation ran her over and killed her. Worse yet, witnesses say they not only yelled for him to stop but he kept on going after he hit the woman.

The driver left the park and was detained by police near another park a few blocks away. The man’s name hasn’t been released as he has yet to be officially arrested by he has been an employee of the Recreation and Park Department since 2009.

Neighbors say this was only a matter of time, as they have complained for years about gardeners and other workers who speed through Bernal Heights’ Holly Park.

"I had a couple of incidents when I had to say something," said Peggy Hepa Lobatos. "I've noticed that this (gardener) shouldn't be driving so fast. There are people lying out, children from Junipero Serra Elementary School who come here for exercise, and it's a challenge."

In fact, Ms. Lobatos, who visits the park twice daily, said the gardener once nearly hit her German shepherd service dog, Beethoven.

Another man from the neighborhood, Wardy Joubert, also said the maintenance workers drive recklessly through the park.

"They just drive through the park like a freeway," he said. "They have a pathway to drive on so I don't see why they go on the grass."

Parks and Recreation General Manager Phil Ginsburg issued a statement by way of condolences to the victim's friends and family. "This is a devastating day for all," he said.

"The idea that you can go into a park with your baby and be run over is impossible to imagine," Park Supervisor David Campos said. "Something went wrong here. We can't have anything like this happen again."

People in the area speculate that this young mother who died had only moved here recently from Europe. Our heart aches for this poor family.
