The Magistrate, Mr Akeem Fashola, remanded 27-year-old Saturday after he admitted stealing the laptop of his employer. Fashola adjourned the case till December 16, 2013 for facts and sentencing.
The police prosecutor, Corporal Kehinde Olatunde, told the court that the accused committed the offence sometime in September at Ilupeju, Lagos.
He said the accused entered into the room of his employer, one Mr. Abayomi Rotimi, stole his laptop valued at N80,000 and a home theatre valued at N40,000.
“The accused, who was the security guard to the complainant, unlawfully entered into one of his rooms and made away with his property.
“He sold the laptop for N10,000, and the sound system, also for N10,000 without the complainant’s consent and the proceeds were converted to his personal use,” the prosecutor said.
Olatunde said that the offence contravened Section 285 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
News Agency of Nigeria reports that Section 285 provides that if convicted of stealing, the accused is liable to three years imprisonment.
