32 Year Old Businesswoman Defrauds Her customer of N82,000

A businesswoman, Chinyere Nwachukwu, who allegedly defrauded one of her customers of N82,000 on Monday appeared before an Ejigbo Magistrates’ Court in Lagos.

Nwachukwu, 32, who resides at the Ikotun area of Lagos, is facing a three-count charge of conspiracy to defraud, obtaining under false pretences and stealing.

The Prosecutor, Cpl. Femi Adeleye, told the court that the accused conspired with others at large to commit the offences sometime in February.

Adeleye said that the accused obtained N70,000 and MTN recharge cards worth N12,000 from a customer, one Mrs Amarachi Egekonye, under the pretext of a prayer session by a spiritual for her marriage to succeed.

He said that the offences contravened Sections 285, 312 and 323 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.

The accused, however, pleaded not guilty.

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the accused could be sentenced to 15 years imprisonment on conviction.

The Magistrate, Mrs M. B Folami, granted the accused bail in the sum of N50,000 with one surety in like sum and adjourned the case till March 19, for mention.
