Chelsea Set for Mass £80m First-Team Clearout

Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho has a list of five players he wants to get rid off in the summer transfer window, with Fernando Torres heading the bill, according to reports.

The Daily Star claims that the Special One is keen to make crucial additions to his side, having seen them falter multiple times this campaign, but knows that he will be forced to offload a host of stars if he wants to have the funds and squad space to do it. According to the article in question, Torres is joined by veteran full-back Ashley Cole, on-loan starlet Romelu Lukaku, the indifferent David Luiz and also John Obi Mikel.

Of course the news probably won’t come as much of a surprise to Blues fans, as Mourinho is well known for undertaking changes where he deems them necessary, regardless of the players in question. It’s thought that the Chelsea boss wants the increase the funds he will be allowed to outlay at the end of this season, with the acquisition of a top-class striker his priority.

Wary of the Financial Fair Player restrictions, the report claims that Mourinho wants to make a combined fee of around £80million by wielding the axe, with Luiz tipped to go for £30million, Lukaku £25m and both Torres and Mikel for £15million each.
