Cesc Fabregas ‘close to joining Chelsea’

Chelsea are close to tying up a sensational deal to sign former Arsenal captain Cesc Fabregas from Barcelona, according to Mundo Deportivo.

Fabregas looks almost certain to depart Camp Nou this summer, and the Spanish newspaper are reporting that Jose Mourinho has jumped to the front of the queue to sign the 27-year-old.

Fabregas spent eight years at Arsenal before re-joining boyhood club Barcelona in 2011, but Gunners boss Arsene Wenger has reportedly turned down the chance to take him back to the Emirates.

Manchester United and Manchester City have also been linked with the Spain international, but the latest reports from Spain suggest Mourinho has made him his number one target to replace the departing Frank Lampard.

Fabregas, who has 87 caps for Spain and is in their World Cup squad, is thought to be keen to return to the Premier League and could be available for around £30million.
