THE Kogi State governor, Captain Idris Wada, has said his administration would encourage the fight against sharp corrupt practices in the system and warned that any public officer caught in the act would not be spared.He also promised to institute the culture of accountability and transparency in the running of the affairs of the state.
Wada gave the promise while declaring open a two-day sensitisation workshop on Freedom of Information (FOI) Act, organised by the House of Representatives Committee on Reform of Government Institutions in Lokoja.
He commended the Federal Government for bringing the Act to reality, while assuring that his administration would partner with the government to make the Act relevant in the state.
He observed that the Act would ensure public protection, freedom of expression and creation of awareness on government activities and the society at large.
Earlier, in his welcome address, the chairman of the House of Representative Committee on Reform of Government Institutions, Honourable Matthew Omegara, had said the committee was mandated to ensure effective implementation of the Freedom of Information Act, which would go a long way in giving credential to the nation’s democratic process.
