Oyo PDP crisis deepens

THE crisis in the Oyo State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has taken a new twist with Oyo State former deputy governor, Alhaji Taofeek Arapaja moving against his former boss, Adebayo Alao-Akala alongside other chieftains of the party to inaugurate a new state executive.Another prominent chieftain of the new faction is the Minister of State for the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Oloye Jumoke Akinjide.

The other factional executive that was inaugurated is led by the immediate past Governor of the state Chief Adebayo Alao-Akala and Senator Lekan Balogun

Leaders of the new faction accused former Governor Akala of being responsible for the un-ending crisis in the party by not allowing senator Rashidi Ladoja back into the party, stressing that this was responsible for the failure of the party to win the 2011 election in the state.

During the inauguration of the new state executive, the executive led by one Alhaji Mustapha, Arapaja said what led to the failure of the party to win the governorship election would not be allowed to repeat itself.

He said, “PDP is for all. Nobody will be allowed to dictate things again. That is what led us here. Some of us still have integrity. Last year, we had power, money (in fact, people were calling us ATM) but we did not listen. We need to work together. We will continue to tell them.

“He wants to be everywhere, everything; it is not done in a democracy. We fought everybody then. We must be friendly with the people. We need to change and embrace more people. I don’t know why some people are frightened by Ladoja. Within four months of forming a party, he garnered over 200,000 votes in the election. Accord Party is an extension of the PDP.

Arapaja maintained that the preoccupation of all serious minded chieftains of the party was how to win elections adding “ We had five states in the South West and lost all of them. Once you realize your mistake, you change. We won’t allow the same problem to continue. No! We will win elections this time.”
