Alleged N44m scam: Dosunmu urges Ikuforiji to step down

Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mr Adeyemi Ikuforiji, has been urged to step down over the money laundering charges against him by Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC.Governorship candidate of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in the April 2011 general elections, Dr. Ade Dosunmu, addressing newsmen, yesterday, said: “It is inappropriate for Ikuforiji to remain as Speaker of the legislative Assembly.

Ikuforiji cannot, in good conscience, exercise his duty creditably and to the best satisfaction of the people of Lagos State considering the negative public perception which continues to cast serious doubt on his personality as the number three citizen of our dear Centre of Excellence.

“It is an unambiguous fact that Ikuforiji is no longer fit to preside over the affairs of the legislative arm of government until he conclusively defends the on-going trial of money laundering charges against him.”

Citing the House of Representatives probe of the Capital Market, Dosunmu said that Mr Herman Hembe, erstwhile Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Capital Market, resigned his leadership of the committee over a N44 million bribery allegation.
