A group suspected to members of Boko Haram launched an attack on Joint Task Force (JTF) troops in Sabon Gari in Maiduguri metropolis in the early hours of yesterday. The exchange of gunfire created panic among the residents who had to take cover in their various homes for fear of being hit by stray bullets.
The incident, which started at about 5:00am, lasted for about one hour before the JTF troops overpowered the unknown gunmen.
The JTF spokesman Lt. Col. Shamsu Musa, in a telephone interview, confirmed the incident, adding that the attack was successfully repelled and no casualty was recorded. He revealed that the following items were recovered by JTF members: one AK47 riffle, magazine with 27 rounds of 7.62mm special and one improvised explosive device was discovered and detonated by the JTF. Col. Musa added that the situation was under control.
