The Lagos State University (LASU), Ojo has denied the rumours making the rounds that 11 of her students were arrested by the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) over cult-related activities. The university was reacting to a publication in an evening tabloid penultimate Thursday. The report claimed the LASU suspects, who are members of the Aiye Confraternity, were nabbed with dangerous weapons in their hideouts around Ijanikin along the Badagry Expressway shortly after attacking a member of a rival cult gang, Aiye Confraternity.
The university also lamented that the medium also failed to reach the university for verification of the studentship of the suspects before running the story.
In a briefing at the Vice-Chancellor’s Office yesterday, the university’s Acting Head, Centre for Information, Press and Public relations, Dr Sola Fosudo, described the headline as “sensational” and the story ‘malicious’ adding that it also attempted to drag the good name of the university in the mud.
