Following a tip-off by members of the public, men of the anti-bomb unit of the Plateau State Police Command foiled attempt by a group of terrorists to bomb a bridge linking Jol-Hoss to Riyom Local Government Area of the state.A source close to the scene where the bombs were planted told Sunday Tribune that the time-bombs were carefully positioned in two different places under the bridge and covered with rag to prevent them from being noticed.
It was learnt that the bombs were suspected to have been planted in the night, but were discovered in the early hour of Saturday by some farmers who use the base of the bridge for irrigation farming.
They were said to have quickly alerted relevant authorities for prompt action.
The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in the state, Abuh Emmanuel, an Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), who confirmed the discovery to Sunday Tribune, said immediately the people within the vicinity notified the police, men of the anti-bomb unit of the command, led by Abel Mbibi, an ASP, were deplored to the scene.
According to him, the men were able to detonate the bombs before it went off.
He added that in the process of detonation, nobody sustained injury, while no damage was done to the bridge or any property within the area.
He said no arrest had been made, but advised the people of the state to be more vigilant and alert the police whenever they saw any suspicious object, adding that they should make no attempt to detonate such by themselves.
The PPRO further implored members of the public to avoid rushing to scenes of bomb blast, adding that there might be bomb that were yet to explode.
