Fear Grips Enugu Residents Over Incessant Killing Of Policemen

Palpable fear has gripped residents of Enugu following the brutal murder of some policemen in the city by unknown gunmen in recent times. Our investigations revealed that hoodlums have killed more than three policemen, including the Kwara State Commission of Police Chinwike Asadu, since the beginning of this year.
It was gathered that the hoodlums also disappeared with the pistols of the slain policemen.

Most residents of the coal city who spoke to LEADERSHIP said the new trend had instilled fear in them.

Mr Obinna Oriaku, who resides in Achara Layout, said the ugly development was a serious source of worry to them.

“How do you explain a situation whereby criminals kill policemen and take away their guns. Why won’t some of us without guns be afraid when those saddled with the responsibility of protecting us cannot even protect themselves,” he stated.

Another resident of Achara layout, Mrs Onyinye Ndukwu, said there was the need for policemen to be combat ready at all times, saying it was unfortunate that hoodlums had continued to kill many of them in Enugu and nobody has been able to trace the whereabouts of the killers.

It could be recalled that the Enugu State Commissioner acknowledged last week while briefing news men that some unknown hoodlums had been killing policemen in the state but said his command was working hardto stop the new trend.
