The Special Anti-Robbery Squad of the Lagos State Police Command has launched a manhunt to recover two rocket launchers and arrest the seven suspects over Friday’s foiled robbery at a bank in Ajao Estate. Thirteen armed robbers were last Friday intercepted at Abule Egba junction along the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway, by three decoy teams of SARS after they received information about the robbery operation slated for that afternoon. The suspects were said to be approaching Lagos from Ogun State.
The robbers who were travelling in a Toyota Sienna AKD 54 AG, Nissan Sunny BT 914 APP and a Toyota Camry, engaged the SARS teams in a fierce gun battle which sent residents and commuters running for safety.
Three suspects were reportedly killed while three were arrested.
The remaining seven suspects escaped in a Toyota Camry with two rocket launchers and three AK 47 rifles in their possession.
The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ngozi Braide, confirmed the incident to PUNCH Metro.
She said, “The robbers were intercepted at Abule Egba, They were on their way to rob a bank at Osolo road, Ajao Estate. Investigation is currently on to apprehend the fleeing suspects.”
