AS part of the efforts to boost economic and social relations, Nigeria and Poland have concluded arrangements to set a bi-national commission between the two countries.
Already, the two countries have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on the establishment of a mechanism for strategic dialogue. This is a precursor to the establishment of a bi-national commission.
This was the outcome of discussions Thursday between Nigerian President, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan and the Polish Prime Minister, Mr. Donald Tusk, who is leading a high-powered delegation of business community to Nigeria.
The two leaders, who met for some hours behind the closed-door, said in a joint communiqué that they held talks on promoting and further strengthening the bilateral relations between Nigeria and Poland, and provided guidance and direction at the bilateral talks held to further enhance their ties of friendship. They also exchanged views on regional and international issues of mutual interest.
In his opening remarks, President Jonathan described Poland as a very important European country with which Nigeria has had very cordial relationship many years ago.
According to him: “We have been co-operating at all international fora that the two countries belong and we have worked together in so many ways.
“This visit today offers us opportunity to exchange views on a number of subject matters, especially those bothering on our economies.
“We reviewed the state of our bilateral relations and acknowledge that we can do more to deepen and uplift our bilateral relations, considered a number of agreements on trade; investment promotion and protection.
