Plateau NSCDC graduates 272 new armed members
The Plateau State Command of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defense Corps, NSCDC, Wednesday, graduated batch four of its armed squad, with a warning not to abuse the arms in their possessions.
Addressing the graduands and members of the public at the event, the commander of the corps in the state, Sodengi Bature, said “as you witness today the passing out parade of batch 4 of the command’s armed squad, the 272 officers and men who are passing out today have completed their extensive training on weapons handing, arms drills, combat craft range classification\excise, obstacle crossing.”
“The term strange stray or straight bullet is not acceptable. Therefore, as far as the corps is concerned, it is a capital offense for anyone to be involved in the accidental discharge of a fire arm entrusted to him\her,” he added.
Mr. Bature, gave the warning at the Pass out Parade of the squad (POP), held at Federal Secretariat in Jos, and charged them to discharge their duties with all sense of responsibility.
“Any armed squad personnel of the corps, who commits the slightest offense, in the handing and use of the fire arms, must not only be dismissed but be prosecuted immediately including anyone who in the process is presumed to be involved or aided or abetted in committing the offense,” he said.
The security chief said the NSCDC will collaborate with other security agencies for the better protection of the Nigerian territory.
He said the “Plateau state command of the corps will continue to work with the Military, police and other security agencies to restore normalcy to troubled areas on the plateau.”
Plateau state governor Jonah Jang, who was represented at the POP by his special adviser on peace building, Timothy Parlong, urged the Plateau civil defence to provide alternative measures to the insecurity bedeviling the state.
Mr. Jang called for dialogue among the warring factions in the state, saying that dialogue is the only option for a lasting solution to peace.
